College of Health Science Building

Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA

Architect: Ballinger
Completed: 2022

This exciting partnership between Wexford Science & Technology and Drexel University included design and construction of a new Academic Tower on their newly developed uCity Square campus in downtown Philadelphia to house and consolidate the School of Nursing (SON) and a large portion of the College of Medicine (COM).  The 450,000 gsf 12-story (plus two mechanical floors) tower encompasses classrooms, research labs, active learning spaces, simulation learning centers, physical therapy rooms and other clinical/treatment space, wellness rooms, offices, food services meeting and conference rooms, retail, catering support, and more. Specialty areas include simulated operating rooms utilizing medical gases compliant with NFPA 99 and simulation patient rooms with patient headwalls suited for SON teaching functions. A large anatomy section in the building provides training for both COM and SON students using cadavers and includes embalming practices. In addition to plumbing design services, WFT designed base building electrical service and distribution systems including medium and low voltage services for the building.
