Gilmer Hall & Chemistry Building Renovations

University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA

Architect: Perkins + Will
Completed: Chemistry 2020 | Gilmer Hall 2022

LEED Silver renovations and complete modernizations of these vital teaching and research facilities were needed in order to meet program growth and STEM program needs.  The project was completed in two phases while occupied, allowing for continued use of the buildings. Gilmer Hall encompasses 232,000 sf and the Chemistry Building consists of 273,000 sf — both were constructed in 1968 and house teaching lab functions for the A&S Biology, Psychology and Chemistry Departments. The scope of work included extensive infrastructure upgrades and space renewals. WFT provided plumbing pre-design, design, and construction administration services.
