University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland

Architect: Ayers Saint Gross

This LEED Gold campus centerpiece for learning features state-of-the-art technology in 12 interactive classrooms and 9 chemistry teaching labs, study and meeting spaces, a large café and three small cafes. The 187,444 gsf facility supports both a general curriculum and STEM programs; it also houses the Teaching and Learning Transformation Center, the Academy of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and the Center for Teaching Excellence. The project scope included demolition of one building, partial demolition and renovation of Holzapfel Hall and a 150,000 sf addition. Our design included new medium and low voltage distribution to support the space plan, energy efficient Crestron lighting systems with daylighting techniques and controls, and a photo-voltaic system to provide greater energy savings. WFT provided electrical and fire protection design and construction administration services.
