Chemistry Building Wing 1 Replacement

University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland

Architect: DCI
Completion: 2023

The replacement of Wing 1 of the Chemistry Building included demolition of the existing wing and construction of a new 105,500 gsf facility to house the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.  The new wing features state-of-the-art research and teaching labs, lab support space, conference rooms, offices, study and collaboration spaces.  Flexible space design efficiency of use will enable the building to easily adapt to changing needs of the department.  The facility brings together students and faculty from chemistry, physics, engineering, and computer sciences, and partners in government and industry. The project scope included site improvements to integrate the building into the surrounding environment. WFT provided plumbing, fire protection, fire alarm, and life safety code design and construction administration services for the design build with GMP project.

Prior to this project WFT participated in developing the program for the combinations of renovations and replacement projects, and as a separate project, renovation and relocation of existing spaces in Wings 1, 2 and 5, in preparation for the Wing 1 replacement.
