Southern Maryland Higher Education Center, Third Classroom and Engineering Building

This exciting new 84,388 sf academic research building will house flexible general purpose classrooms, engineering and research laboratories, collaboration and conference spaces, and faculty offices.  The project will enhance education, research and economic development opportunities in the tri-county area of Southern Maryland. This partnership will result in a world class facility that supports educational research and growth in the development of unmanned and robotic systems. With a unique proximity to NAVAIR-NAWCAD, the University of Maryland UAS Test Site, and Webster field, the new building will serve as a catalyst for collaboration of industry, government and academia and foster creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. The project scope included extensive site, utility, and infrastructure modifications to serve the new facility including roads, parking, walkways, utilities, and storm water management. The design goal is LEED Gold certification with a minimum of Silver; WFT provided plumbing, fire protection, fire alarm, and life safety code design and construction administration services.
