Steven Udvar Hazy Center, Sterling, VA
This pre-engineered warehouse-type building located adjacent to the Udvar Hazy Center is utilized for storage, conservation and curation of archives and scientific research materials from the air and space industry. The design build project scope included field surveys, code analysis, interior demolition, and design documents for the installation of new HVAC units, two circulation fans, electrical equipment, and fire protection controls. Strict humidity and temperature levels and controls are required to minimize fluctuations in air conditions and quality due to the sensitive nature of building contents, particularly in areas containing artifacts and storage collections along with laboratories and scientific research experiments. Equipment operation was required to remain consistent throughout the project. The building is located on property operated by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) adjacent to Dulles International Airport.
