Culinary Arts Center

Prince Georges Community College, Largo, Maryland

Architect: Grimm & Parker Architects
Completed: 2017

This new one-story 21,351 GSF LEED GOLD Culinary Arts Center supports increasing enrollment in culinary arts, hospitality, meeting, and event management.  Training and education are provided in a live “real-world” environment in state-of-the art instructional facilities equipped with dining and serving areas, three instructional restaurant-scale kitchens, a culinary lab, bakery, classrooms, and faculty offices. The facility provides a venue for events, galas, banquets and cooking demonstrations in a community kitchen where home cooks can sharpen their cooking and baking skills.  Organized around a “front of house/back of house” concept, the building allows students to work in a real-world environment. The “front of the house” or public areas are grouped on the west side of the building addressing the main approach from campus. The “back of the house” areas are organized around a central spine providing a gathering space for students and circulation through the building. The instructional kitchens, classroom, and beverage management have strong visual connections to the gathering space through the use of glazing. New site utilities and project site work were significant project features.   WFT provided plumbing and fire protection design and construction administration services.
