A design build relocation of five adjoining lab modules to the sixth floor of the J-Wing was completed for the use of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute’s Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell (iPSC) Genome Engineering Core genome research. The Core was created in 2011 to accelerate stem cell research. The scope included field survey, design, scheduling, cost estimating, demolition, construction, limited commissioning, and project closeout services. Sustainable design measures included new LED task lighting with motion sensors and new overhead lighting with daylight sensors to achieve energy efficiency. Design accommodated tissue culture space, a closet for gas cylinders, general laboratory space, open office apace and private office space. The labs are considered BSL-2 with some BSL-3 practices.
