Architect: Smith Group
Completed: 2026

This inspiring new visitor/cultural center is located on the campus of St. Mary’s College in the National Historic Landmark District of St. Mary’s City, on the site of the fourth permanent settlement in British North America founded in 1634.  The 15,450 sf building features visitor orientation areas, exhibits, an auditorium, event space, offices, two galleries and support spaces. One of the exhibitions tells the story of St. Mary’s City and County and features storyteller digital interactives highlighting stories of the diverse people in St. Mary’s City history.

Our design services included a variable refrigerant volume (VRV) system with multiple outdoor air-cooled condensing units and eleven indoor fan coil units, a large air-cooled split system heat pump, a 100% dedicated outdoor air energy recovery unit, two 50-gallon tank type water heaters and a 250-gallon underground LP propane storage tank.
