This inspiring new LEED Gold academic facility provides a welcoming, inclusive learning environment for students in communications, history and government, language, literature and cultural studies programs. Designed to encourage collaboration and interaction, the 192,000 sf building features a three-story glass façade on two sides, a first floor historical legacy corridor lined with mixed-media artwork highlighting academic skills for success, active learning and collaborative instructional spaces, two tiered classrooms with 150 seats each, a 1,500-seat auditorium, two TV studios, rehearsal rooms, two radio studios, media production facilities for BSU TV, WBSU radio, and the Spectrum Newspaper, do-it-yourself recording studios and a screening room, a cafe, lounges, administrative spaces, meeting and conference rooms, ROTC facilities and an ROTC plaza, retail, an outdoor amphitheater and support spaces. Green features include enhanced indoor air quality by filtration and preventing cross-contamination, natural daylighting and energy saving lighting systems and controls, low VOC emitting products, reduction of water use, and integrated storm water management. The scope included demolition of the old Martin Luther King, Jr Center.
As a separate project, WFT provided engineering services for updating the Part I program and preparation of a Part II program for the project.
